Weight Loss Journey Week 7 of 2013

Week 7 weight loss

Yay, these snazzy jeans are proudly sat in my wardrobe! For the first time in nearly 4 years I have been able to buy a size 18 in jeans from New Look and I have made the most of it since I bought 3 pairs! (Thanks sis for the gift voucher for Christmas, I love my new jeans)

Ok I know this may not sound like a massive achievement to some of you but to me this is the holy grail of clothes purchasing!

I love them and I know they are not a size 8 ..  but if we are honest its like having 2 size 8’s ….. one for each side!!

My eating has been back on track this week although the exercise has not really been what was planned it has made me more determined than ever to get my ass moving!

So my exercise targets for last week were:

  • A minimum of 2 x 3 mile walks (min 6 miles total)
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • Hockey Match Saturday so need to play the whole match!

What exercise I actually completed this week:

  • Walking – Nil
  • 100 mins Hockey Match (we won 2-1!)
  • No Hockey Training as it was snowing.

So how did I do?

– 1 lb

Ranty Friday – Some Companies

ranty friday - some companies

Right hands up in the air … yes I am a fairly new blogger…

This does not make me stupid nor an idiot, what it does mean is I am eager to learn all about the crazy complex world in which I now find myself.

I have been very kindly asked over the last 3 nearly 4 months to participate in reviewing some items and I have been then given them to keep. Great stuff who doesn’t like being honest and get to keep stuff!

The companies I have dealt with up until now and the ones I am dealing with currently I need to point out have been absolutely amazing and I do have to say that this rant does not in any way represent them.

They have understood the need to ensure the product is relevant to my family, they have allowed me to carry out the review to fit into my time frame and have not grumbled once when I have attached  negatives to the product or item I have reviewed for them, as lets face it you come to me you get an honest review.

My problem lies with companies which have contacted me out of the blue with  no idea at what my blog is about or the content in which I post on there.

The ones that I am talking about today send mass generated emails and expect a response, Why should  we respond when you obviously do not have any idea about what target market you’re aiming for as each and every blog is very different.

When you do make contact please be aware of what you’re wanting from me and my blog as my time is equally as precious as yours and I do not want to have to have a multiple email conversation in which I finally find out what you’re requiring.

Please take the time to find out what ages my children are so you don’t feel a little stupid when your asking me to review some newborn item in pink when in fact my daughter is nearly 12.

Until then Companies please please just treat us with some respect and honesty, to many of us our blogs are an extension to our families. We love you guys and will help but only if respected!

…. And remember I maybe fairly new now but one day maybe my blog will compete for world domination! …

Weight Loss Journey Week 6 of 2013

Naval Gazing

Ok Ok … Will the lazy sod please stand up! …. that will be me then!

This week I will list my weight loss failings *hangs head in shame*

I was nothing but a lazy so and so.. my cold meant no Hockey Training as I can barley breath when I am out there, add a blocked nose and copious amounts of snot .. not good.

I have unashamedly eaten rubbish, crisps and a takeaway without a second thought.

My final failing this week was the 9 hours of drinking in which over 7 pints of larger where consumed (and that’s just the ones I remember, I vaguely recollect a wine or 3??!)

I am pleased to report however a couple of my friends from the village who last year did very well on their fitness drive are going to be taking up 2 x 3 mile walks per week in the evenings and if I honest I am looking forward to joining in .. who knows maybe I could build myself up to running it? .. eventually

Ladies please be aware I may need a sick bag!

I have also while sat in my fat pants on the sofa been reading a great book called Naval Gazing about weight loss and the emotional connection that your head plays in this weight loss malarkey if anyone is interested then I have completed a review of the book HERE.

So my exercise targets for last week were:

  • A minimum of 3 x 2 mile walks  (min 6 Miles)
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • No Hockey match … (although I thought there was no match after I was looking at the wrong week).. its the blonde in me!

What exercise I actually completed this week:

  • 1 x 1 mile – Walk
  • 110 mins Hockey Match (we lost 6-1!)
  • No Hockey Training as I felt dreadful last Wednesday with a blooming cold.

So how did I do?

Remained the Same .. if I am honest I deserved to of gained!

Total Weight Loss This Year:

Next Week’s Exercise:

  • A minimum of 2 x 3 mile walks (min 6 miles total)

  • Hockey Match Saturday so need to play the whole match!

This week I only have my lazy ass to blame! … come on lets get hyped for next week!

The Gallery: Girls

I have obviously lived in a cupboard oblivious to the outside world since I have only just discovered this great linky via Tara at Sticky Fingers.

So this being my first link up I do hope I have got it right!.

The theme for this week is girls and since being of the female variety myself I have included myself into this in order to show you some pictures of the Oliver girls.

While browsing for pictures this morning I have found I have to make a massive confession ….. there are barely any of Beth and I so I have pledged this morning that I will aim to resolve this in the future!

A Lovely Meeting Followed By Crap ..

Dog Poo Bin

Yesterday started off so lovely, I finally got to meet another one of my lovely blogging chums the fantastic Sarah from The Puffin Diaries. We visited a lovely pub halfway between each of us. It was so lovely to meet someone I regularly have contact with in real life.

Poor Sarah had no secrets as Joshua fell in love with her bag and continually emptied the entire contents on the floor and played with her compact! .. sorry Sarah.

After a spot of lunch we ventured into the garden to find it not only muddy but also covered in dog poo. No word of a lie the entire area was covered! Needless to say toddlers and dog poo just don’t mix!

After trying to get my distraught toddler into the pushchair so I could remove his mud and poo encrusted shoes disaster struck and not only did the pushchair cosy toes get swiped with a flailing limb so did my jeans leg!

Oh the joys …

Had I not of had such a lovely lunch with Sarah beforehand I may of just silently wept; however baby wipes bore the brunt of the clean-up operation before it was time to leave.

On returning home I stripped Joshua in the doorway and followed with a strip down of my own. While busying myself with the offensive articles and the washing machine Joshua was flitting between the living room and the kitchen. When I turned round I noticed his pull up had slipped off and was lying dejected on the kitchen floor.

So off I went to collect a new pull up from the living room draw when realisation dawned …….poo

Yep after his pull up had dropped off he had wondered into the living room and had obviously done a jig while letting it all hang free mid poo!

I shed a small tear ..

Thank the lord I was in a calm and happy mood from meeting my friend or I would of crumpled into ball and howled like a wolf.

After some serious cleaning equipment and time my living room looked as good as new

I hope today is not going to be as eventful in the poo department!

My Weight Loss Journey Week 5 of 2013

Weightloss Wlking wk5

After last week I set off this week with renewed vigor and got 3 walks completed in the early part of the week! I was eating reasonably well … then disaster struck …. a nasty cold has taken hold of Joshua and I and we have been battling heavy achy limbs and far too much snot to cope with.

All I can say is thank god I had batch cooked teas for this week! I barley have any energy to wipe my nose never mind cook a healthy meal!

Hockey tonight is not looking promising due to the pounding head I have had for the last few days, brought on by this cold. However we will see if it clears later.

So my exercise targets for last week were:

  • A minimum of 3 x 2 mile walks  (min 6 Miles)
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • No Hockey match … so just get my bum from the sofa!!

What exercise I actually completed this week:

  • 2 x 2 miles – Walks
  • 1 x 1 mile – Walk     – Total 5 miles
  • 140 mins Hockey Training – Due to changing weigh in day it would count on next weeks exercise

So how did I do?

– 0.5lbs

Total Weight Loss This Year:

Total Loss (including last year)

4 Stone 7.5lbs

Next Week’s Exercise:

  • A minimum of 3 x 2 mile walks (min 6 miles total)
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • Hockey Match Saturday so need to play the whole match!

Not a great week however once again any loss is great but 7.5lbs in a month is still overall pretty great!

The Blogging Community

The Blogging Community

When I set out on my blogging journey last year I was totally unprepared….unprepared for how much bloggers support each other.

‘In Real Life’ there are so many pressures maintaining friendship, trying to ensure you make those important meet ups for coffee or lunch. To fit the odd night out round the financial constraints of bringing up a family along with the time to actually go and enjoy yourself in the first place instead of stressing about what time the first morning wake-up call will hit.

Blogging is such a strange creature, we all know so much about each other through the interaction we make via our media platforms and by the blog posts we read.  However we have in most circumstances never even laid eyes on each other without the use of a screen.

As a new starter last year I was overwhelmed by the support from even the most established of blogger, by the time they were prepared to give, their helpful words of wisdom and by their continual support they still offer. These people probably know me better than I know myself.

I have also been lucky to be part of a group of newbies that started around the same time who I have clicked with on such a level that these people I don’t know what I would do without them.

The blogging community understands that social media is a large part of my life and don’t make me feel I have neglected them when I have been away from my screen to actually live my life.

After some recent very sad news in the blogging community that has rocked me to the very core. I now understand what this crazy community have to offer, a level of support that I have never ever come across. Even bloggers who you have never had direct contact are there sending support and doing what they can. If one blogger hurts the rest hurt too.

I think unless you have been part of this craziness it’s difficult to comprehend how strong the friendships actually are.

I am so pleased I made this choice in my life and that I have such an incredible group of friends. I look forward to the friends I have yet to meet and the craziness in which is yet to happen.

Thank you bloggers!

My Weight Loss Journey Week 4 of 2013

Weight Loss Wk4

After last week weight loss fail and my 0.7lbs increase I have to say I was more than a little deflated and spent until the weekend brooding!

Food wise the last 4 days have been back on track however while still brooding we did visit an all you can eat Chinese buffet! … probably not the wisest move!

I have also batch cooked all next weeks evening meals so there will be no excuse for eating pre processed frozen crap! I intend to try and cut down on my bread intake also next week. Although I am not a massive bread muncher last week while still sulking I did have a couple of days where I had quite a lot of bread.

So my exercise targets for last week were:

  • A minimum of 3 x 2 mile walks … again!
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • No Hockey match … so just get my bum from the sofa!!

What exercise I actually completed this week:

  • 1 x 2.2 miles – Walk
  • 1x 1 mile – Walk
  • 140 mins Hockey Training

Hockey Training I have to say was very hard this week since it was lashing it down with rain and it was beyond Baltic – hence the 40 cut short from my target!

Ok so not quite what I had wanted to achieve however if I had stopped sulking and got my finger out sooner this week I would of  hit my exercise targets! *mental note made – stop sulking*

So how did I do?

-1 lbs, yep that’s right I have Lost!

Total Weight Loss This Year:

Total Loss (including last year)

4 Stone 7lbs

Next Week’s Exercise:

  • A minimum of 3 x 2 mile walks
  • Attend both hockey training sessions (junior with Beth & ladies = 180 mins)
  • No Hockey match on Saturday so get out for a long walk on Sunday

Having found the fab Kate from Naked Mum who is also on a weight loss journey I am linking up HERE so I can gain encouragement from others who are also on this long journey and also to spread some support to others.

Not the best week however a loss is still a loss and only I can turn it round next week!

Weight Loss, Exercise & Boobs, Baps & Bangers ..

Sports Bra

My goodness the list of names for boobs is a long one! … Whatever you call them us ladies are stuck with them.  I had never really thought of boobs in great detail, however since breastfeeding my son my boobs have gone through some dramatic changes.

I have very little … yep you read right … I have far smaller breasts than I had previously!

As most of you will know by now I am on the long journey of sheading lots of excess baby and chocolate weight and now I have finally acknowledged that my boobs are different I want to make sure what I have got is being looked after!

During the previous year in which I shed almost 4 stones, I have started 2013 as I mean to go on and I have upped the exercise anti! Which is why I have been looking at my undergarments!!??

I currently wear a sports bra while playing hockey however honestly (and I might as well be honest since I have mentioned boobs how many times?) … it doesn’t fit!   I bought it almost 6 years ago.  So why I have been wearing it now?  Simple – My choices were limited;

Option 1 – Padded T-shirt bras – support nil

Option 2 – Too tight sports bra

Out of the 2, at least option 2 means the world and his wife are not watching what little breast tissue I do have swing from one side of the hockey pitch to the other!  … So my choice was made … until now.

After having endured hours and hours of pain and rubbing in this incredibly tight undergarment I have been searching for a sports bra that FITS – Where to start though?

My first port of call was … yep you guessed it – the internet.  So what do I need to be looking for in a sports bra and why?

Our boobs are made up of fatty tissue and they are supported by quite delicate ligaments called the Cooper’s Ligaments. I have been shocked to find out that If they are not supported correctly then this will cause the dreaded ‘saggy boob’ look, along with possibly causing upper back and boob pain! …. Do us ladies really need more pain?? NOPE

Having discovered what can happen if I don’t get my little bangers into something to support them I dread to think what they will look like when I am older…. Shrivelled fried eggs maybe??  Not on my watch!

So once the mini panic attack subsided I set out on my mission to secure the mammaries and keep going on my weight loss journey.

While on my search mission I found out that the principle is the same for finding your sports bra size and your normal bra! …. Who knew??! Also you must remember to try different brands and sizes to get the level of support you require and to check that it does not rub or chafe.

I have found that although I am a certain size in my day to day bra my sports bra size actually differs from that size so remember ….. TRY THEM ON!

It is also just as important to ensure you buy a sports bra with the level of support you require for your chosen activity. A sports bra for light activity is not going to give you enough support if you’re cross country running.. However it may just give you a black eye!

So my exercise buddies get yourselves kitted out with the most essential part of your exercise kit and take care of those bad boys if you don’t once they are all saggy and you’re tying them in a bow you will wish you had listened!

I have now got a new sports bra courtesy of the very generous folks at Figleaves which I have put through its paces and reviewed so you can take a look HERE
