When Life Isn't Complicated Enough

My Week That Was – Project 365 Week 7

project 365 wk7Ribbet collage365 wk7

Another busy week for us at the Oliver’s Madhouse, Its the last week of term for Beth so next week I have no doubt it will be busier still!

Sunday 10th February – Sunday is what I class as my catch up day, bed stripping, deep cleaning and ironing, Joshua like the empty ironing basket so its always fun when I get to the bottom!

Monday 11th February – After an eventful night over the weekend which led to us taking turns on Joshua’s bedroom floor to hold his hand through the cot bars. Monday morning my little terror thought he would have lie in!

Tuesday 12th February – Joshua and I walked with Beth to school to get some fresh air. Also I think Beth liked the idea as she is being bullied although she would never admit she liked it too!

Wednesday 13th February – Off Joshua and I went to the farm shop to get some ingredients for batch cooking on Thursday, glad we went early as it snowed again.

Thursday 14th February – I batch cooked spag bol, shepherds pie, lasagne and chilli today. We all had haircuts in the afternoon by the lovely Carl our mobile hairdresser too.

Friday 15th February – Was a lazy day, While I was catching up with emails and post reading Joshua played with his friend Doggy. I did have to explain later on that Doggy didn’t need to be washed in the washing machine!

Saturday 16th February – This morning Joshua came into our bed for a snuggle, I love Saturday mornings.

Hope you all had a great week too.

Never Move A Sleeping Toddler

sleep

Yes I am one of those annoying parents that have been totally totally lucky. Joshua has been an amazing sleeper from a mere 5 weeks old.

Every evening my little man brushes his teeth and treks up the stairs to go and give loves to Ted (his teddy) Largely he is in bed fast sleep by 7.30 pm for a good 11-12 hours.

Ok so this last couple of weeks Joshua, Beth and I have been totally bunged up with snot, this as we all know can make it quite difficult to breath. Having said that I have added a pillow into his cot to raise him slightly which has helped.

In my wisdom at 12.30 am on Saturday morning when on route to bed I decided that I ought to remove the pillow as its no longer needed.

Joshua was not actually using the pillow however when I very quietly took it out he shot up in his cot and began to cry. *go Jaime you numpty*

After settling him back down the only thing way he would stop crying is if I laid on the floor and held his hand through the cot bars.

Nearly an hour passes and I am seriously in pain with my PSD and my eyes are hurting as I am so tired … Joshua on the other hand is wide awake and muttering.

After taking all the pain I could, I shipped in Ollie for his stint on the floor holding hands … several hours pass and the boys remain locked in a marathon hand holding session when Joshua finally drops off.

All those Mummies and Daddies out there that have a tot that wakes frequently in the night you are all my heros! you are far better people than me as a couple of days on and I am still grumpy with lack of sleep!

The Joy of Inset Days!

Inset days

Today is an inset day at my daughter’s school, so what will we be doing today:

  • Snuggling on the all together
  • Watching films
  • Generally chillaxing
  • Talking

Now don’t get me wrong this quality time together is much needed and very much wanted, however why do we need an inset day smack in the middle of the term?

Having been a working single mum with my daughter previously these rogue inset days not only were a logistical nightmare to organise but I could never understand why they had to be smack in the middle of term?

Now Beth returned after the Christmas break on the 4th January  this means this inset day is taking place after only 4 weeks after returning and a mere 9 school days before she breaks up for yet another week of holiday!

Why?

Don’t get me wrong I am not grumbling over inset days nor the fact there are a lot of school holidays, what really aggrieves me is the fact they stick a random day in instead of attaching it to the beginning or the end of the term!

Now being a stay at home parent at the moment these rogue inset days don’t really affect me, however I know the stress it brings to working parents!

As parents we are aware of how important maintaining the routine of school is and we ensure we send our children come hell or high water. Why do schools not also  think this is important?

Oh well quality time for us here we come …

Ranty Friday – Dearest Laptop

ranty friday laptop

We have been pals for quite some time; however I think that our separation is neigh. You have seen me through 5 separate college courses, 2 jobs, 3 house moves, the birth of my son a divorce and a marriage.

You have worked your little transformer-ed butt off, but now:

YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!

Your consistently burning hot fan is almost setting me alight. Your broken speakers and cracked back plate just wind me up!!

You are just so naughty, if you’re not burning my skin, sitting in silence, turning yourself off or closing down at will …….your being repaired.

After 6 years of service, 7 repairs, 1 new mother board and 3 fans replacements, why oh why can’t the laptop insurance not just write you off??

You are not top of the range nor are you effective for 80% of the time and you’re independently responsible I am sure for 5% of PC Worlds carbon footprint! With all this fetching and carrying!

Laptop, PC World has received my monthly payments diligently for all these years .. I have now spent triple the amount on insurance payments than what you originally cost!

I dread the next trip to PC World as I will be once again left with no laptop for 3 weeks. This is why I put up with the burning of my skin, broken speakers and faulty screen along with your selfishness at turning yourself off.

Please just keel over gracefully and irreparably it will save us both the pain and heartache of your extended demise.

Eternally grateful

Me

P.s I have now backed up so anytime you’re ready is great with me!

Fun Photo Fun – Snowmen

FPF Snow

This week with the snow has really come down,  last year Joshua was barely walking so he didn’t understand what it was all about. This year it has been totally different he loves the snow!

Over the last 3 days we have really enjoyed playing in the snow and even when Joshua  is wondering around like an ice cube he refuses to come in.

Ollie and I have also enjoyed the snow and even had a competition over the weekend of who could build the best snowman! (I won, but don’t tell him!)

The funniest part (yes you will think I am cruel) is when Joshua sat on a mound of snow and thought he was so clever, then slowly fell forward and face planted himself into the snow, although Ollie was taking photos I rushed to catch him but want quick enough. We waited for the cry but instead all he did was wipe snow off his little face and then go back to playing!

Fun Photo Fun Snow

Here is to snowy days and snowmen!

Fun Photo Fun – Hoovers

This week my little mans obsession with Hoovers has taken on an all new level of obsessive as he proceeded to take his everywhere. He has been able to say hoover for quite some time now but now he is calling everything a hoover!

Fun P Fun

He had a second hand hoover last year but it was so dilapidated we got rid as it was dropping bits of plastic everywhere, However he was very lucky as he got this new one from his Effie and Grandad for Christmas.

Since Christmas he has played with it quite regularly although this week he has played with nothing else!

The moment I go into the cupboard under the stairs he presumes I will be getting the hoover out and runs off to get his!

If I actually start hoovering he is over the moon as he can hoover too! although My feet are battered as he tends to run over my feet or basically just bashes them to bits!

FPF

I hope he keeps his cleaning obsession up as he grows! (nudge nudge Daddy, you could learn from your son!)

I am once again linking up with the lovely Charlotte from The Crumby Mummy for her fab linky Fun Photo Fun.
